Educational Farm
Learn from the nature
Alpaca Country House cares deeply about the environment. That's why we have a solar-powered hot water system, heating fueled by a biomass boiler, and we use rainwater collected in the farm's original cisterns to water our plants. Our roof has been rebuilt using cork's natural thermal insulation properties and features proper ventilation. We'd love to show you and your children the different renewable energy solutions our planet urgently needs to adopt!
If you want to taste truly zero-kilometer products, you can visit our organic garden with aromatic herbs and all kinds of vegetables: we'll teach you all the tricks to grow a perfect garden!
We have two more projects in the works: the first is building straw bale houses to promote alternative construction methods that make the most of local resources and reduce pollution. The second is installing a photovoltaic system to make our facility energy independent and create an on-site demonstration of energy production using solar panels.
We're very fond of animals too, which is why we're kept company by: a little donkey named Giulio, seven Tibetan goats, a golden retriever and four cats! You're all invited to keep them company for a while!
GO GREEN
You'll be able to witness all stages of processing our alpacas' wool - from work-in-progress to finished product! We organize handloom spinning workshops!
The organic garden, with a dedicated section for aromatic herbs. You'll savor the taste of freshly picked vegetables used in our kitchen.
Along the nature trail spanning 5 hectares of land, you can listen to the "voices of the forest" and admire centuries-old plants like oaks, olive trees, and cypresses that have inspired great poets.
