Alpaca

A Break Among Rolling Hills

Our breeding farm of Huacaya alpacas has 10 animals and is the only one of its kind in the province of Pisa. Staying at the Country House will allow you to take part in daily farm life—feeding the animals and joining in seasonal farm work.

All our alpacas are shy, gentle, and quiet, yet highly intelligent. A day spent with them will remind you how much peace can be found in silence.

Our farm also has a shop where you can buy scarves and blankets made from alpaca wool. Each product is unique, handmade with wool from our own herd. If interested, we also sell spun alpaca wool in skeins, available in gray, dark brown, and light brown.

Alpaca fiber is prized for its thermal properties, lightweight feel, and silky touch. It’s no wonder fabrics made from this precious natural fiber were once reserved for crafting the garments of INCA emperors.

Alpacas are herbivores that graze on short grass, making them excellent natural lawnmowers—in fact, they're used in Northern Italian valleys to maintain the landscape.

What's the difference between Alpacas and Llamas? Llamas are noticeably larger, while alpacas are more compact, reaching a maximum height of 110 cm (43 inches). Alpacas also have smaller, triangular-shaped ears, whereas llamas sport distinctive "banana-shaped" ears. Additionally, alpaca wool is notably softer and lighter than llama fiber.
